Conference on Arsenic in Groundwater in Southern Asia

Because the initially announced dates turned out to collide with the US Thanksgiving celebration we have changed the dates to:

14-17 th November 2011, Hanoi, Vietnam

 

The contamination of groundwater with arsenic is a continued threat to the water supplies in southern Asia and therefore remains a subject of intensive research.

This conference intends to present the latest results and is a follow-up on the previous meetings in Manchester (UK), 2007 and Siem Reap (Cambodia), 2009.

 

The meeting is scheduled to be small with about 60 scientists selected among applicants plus 10-20 students/young scientists from the S. Asia region.

 

Venue

The meeting and accommodation will take place at the Hanoi Horison Hotel, Hanoi, Vietnam

 

Programme

The meeting will consist of three days with technical sessions (oral presentations and posters) and

one day with a mid-conference excursion to research field sites near Hanoi.     

 

Excursion

The excursion goes by bus to the Dan Phuong research field site, 30 km upstream of Hanoi.

From here, we transfer by boat on the Red River to the research field sites at Nam Du and Van Phuc, downstream of Hanoi.

Lunch and traditional Vietnamese music will be enjoyed on the way. The trip back to the Horison Hotel is by bus.

 

Costs

Regular Conference Registration Fee:       500 US $

Low Income Countries Registration Fee:   100 US $

Students Conference Registration Fee:     100 US $

Accommodation, Single or double rooms: 140 US $ per night

 

Sponsoring

Young scientists/students from low income countries may apply for financial support.

Those that are interested should submit a travel budget with their application, indicating how much support is requested.

 

Abstracts

One page abstracts, indicating whether an oral or poster presentation is preferred, must be written in to the downloadable template: Abstract_template.doc

 

Application

The deadline for applications is February 1st, 2011. Applications must be accompanied by an abstract.

Participants will be invited by the organizing committee on the basis of the relevance of their research to the goals of the conference

and the need for balanced representation with respect to seniority, gender, and country of origin. Applications, maximum one page, must be sent to conference@as-hanoi.org
